Mama’s fish house, paia HAWAII

Now captivating food enthusiasts worldwide, Mama's Fish House has garnered a staggering 4-6 month waitlist, making it an essential stop on any culinary adventure in Hawaii. With an astounding 9,000 Google reviews, this beloved Maui gem has not only captured the hearts of locals but also a dedicated following from people all across the globe, making us feel lucky to grab a lunchtime reservation.

Driving up in our rented Mustang we were greeted by a friendly valet. With the unmatched ocean views, the smell of fresh fish and Polynesian theme throughout we knew we had reached our destination. Adorning the bar walls are photos of celebrities, with the likes of Frank Sinatra and Woody Harrelson. Further showcasing the rich history and local celebrity pull.

We sat in our large circular booth and ordered two long island iced teas and opened our menus.

Mama's Fish House only prepares freshly caught seafood. They list the type of fish, who caught it and where it was caught. This thoughtful gesture serves as a heartfelt tribute to the hardworking fishermen who dedicate countless hours to ensure the freshest catches for the guests at Mamas.

First we started with the three fish sashimi

  • ono with yozu, green chilli oil, papaya and Maui pink sea salt

  • Ahi with ponzu, watermelon radish, red shiso and kukui nut.

  • Kona kampachi with Maui onion fig jam and Molokai Black Sea salt

The next course was the macadamia nut crab cakes with fire and ice relish. A crusty nut top with soft flakes of fish. Served with a light tomato salsa, flying fish roe and a wedge of lemon.

Followed by the Tristan lobster Luau soup with sweet potato crisps.

Then my favourite course the dessert. A Polynesian black pearl” Liliko’i chocolate mousse in a pastry sea shell with passion fruit.

A foodies must when visiting the Island of Maui.
